Slow Exhale 04:17
Slow Exhale Goodbye my friend it’s been lovely knowing you Sitting on a Steam Train, waiting on a slow exhale Watching all the tracks as they roll by Overhead Flamingos paint the sky Goodbye my friend it’s been heaven knowing you Breathing on this tea train waiting for a cloud to break Dark roads at night in a world we don’t know Crickets Shake a note to take us home Dreaming on this steam train Waiting on a slow exhale Dreaming on a steam train On this Coll Autumn day Goodbye my friend on this slow exhale Watching all our landscape willing it to melt away Hotels and cars and salty seas Shoes and boots and boats to make us go Dreaming on this steam train Waiting on a slow exhale Dreaming on a steam train On this cool Autumn day Goodbye my friend it’s been sunlight seeing you Gathering our notebooks pages torn onto the winds Colours and strings and golden leaves Moods and doubts and clouds like giddy thieves

Aran Jumper 05:22
Aran Jumper Together as we sit Looking out at the sea With our cups in our hands Full of hot tea And the sea is a grey photograph Full of hopes full of dreams full of night Your books have lined the walls Flowers of red yellow gold Rug on wood wood on fire Twinkling night lights Croissant tubs bobbing boats crimson toes Grey on green firewood stove treasure trove Alone we sail through night-time rain Bath tubs of milk, drying cloths of silk Across the bay, night lights have their say And though this time is brief I will keep it with me Sun to warm what I feel In the winter Cable knit steals my wit as we slide Diving birds sending signs to my mind The books are stacked up tall They are towers about to fall They are proud We are tender You’re the king on his couch looking out While the queen has her heart in her mouth Alone we sail through night-time rain Bath tubs of milk, Drying cloths of silk Across the bay Night lights have their say The pages fill the bath Ink and soap Broken hearts Butter churns Slanting chairs Creature Comforts Lonely souls setting off on their roads Take a book and good care as you go Together as we sit Looking out at the sea with our cups In out hands Full of hot tea And the sea is a grey photograph Full of hopes full of dreams full of night Alone we sail through night-time rain Bath tubs of milk, Drying cloths of silk Across the bay Night lights have their say

Broken Hotel Room His being is full of leather tied up in Green cotton ribbons Seeking souls on the road With poetry in their toes Though leather stays put He’s busy reading his old dusty books She’s got a wandering eye Delighted when she finds They put us in a broken hotel room With cracks in the walls And rips in our overalls A scene to live our inner woes out in With cracks in the walls And broken hearts in the halls Ah ooooh Hoo hoo hoo hoo Hoo hoo hoo hoo Hoo hoo hoo hoo Long days work on playroom worlds Brings new souls to those hotel doors Peel back my morning eyes Gold sun rising high What a beautiful find She’s got a short living green dragonfly Lighting then leaving lives She’s smiling when she finds They put us in a broken hotel room With cracks in the walls And rips in our overalls A scene to live our inner woes out in With cracks in the walls And broken hearts in the halls Ah ooooh Hoo hoo hoo hoo Hoo hoo hoo hoo Hoo hoo hoo hoo Hoo hoo hoo hoo Playroom worlds undone It’s like this each and every time It’s hard to say goodbye That fun with dragonfly She’s on her way home to leather tied Up in green cotton ribbons Lonely for dragonfly Resigning when she finds They put us in a broken hotel room With cracks in the walls And rips in our overalls A scene to live our inner woes out in With cracks in the walls And broken hearts in the halls Ah ooooh Hoo hoo hoo hoo Hoo hoo hoo hoo Hoo hoo hoo hoo Hoo hoo hoo hoo Hoo hoo hoo hoo hoo hoo hoo …

Touching Infinity Still friends with the child Who wondered at the night sky Standing within and far outside Wonder and awe for moments sublime I knew you when you painted the swirls That drew memories from the infinite From the place where we once came And called our souls by name What becomes of us When our hearts fall to earthy dust When our nights minds let us dive Through galaxies and nothingness divine What becomes of me when you’re gone What becomes of me when you’re gone

Dead Lady’s Cigarettes It would be a pity To smoke the last cigarettes Of a lady long dead That’s what she said As she left my head Shut the book and close the case A lovely leather pockets holds the whole thing in place Did the lady die trying As there’s only three ones left Three unsmoked deaths On her delicate breath Shut the book and close the case The lady’s gone back shivering to her lonely golden gates It would be a pity if we Smoked some of her Cigarettes Dust pin powder to put to her nose Like a delicate rose As she gathers her clothes Ties the belt to show how svelte This lovely deal is That she’s just been dealt How could it be a pity To take stock from the chase Kiss and embrace Open the case Close your eyes and smoke the lines Three pieces packed in a red metal stack Three pieces packed in a red metal stack Tick Tock Tick Tock Tick Tock Tick Tock

Passion Fruit Moons Passion fruit moons And long looping tunes Like threads Knitted ‘round my ankles And my wrists Freshly kissed Leathery skins Fine papery lines ‘Round eyes Shading in the hollows Sunlight crimes Times own vines Bring my fruit Don’t buy me diamonds With pears I’m on a par I’m afraid of the devil Tha outlives me But your flowers die with me Myrica Rubra Trumps diamonds and rubies Your jewels Strung around my neck now Earthly gleam Priceless dreams Our bright sun is laughing And winking and dancing ‘Round us Seeing how we withe and we wilt Moons beam silk Bring me fruit Don’t buy me diamonds With pears I’m on par I’m afraid off the devils That outlive me But your flowers die with me

Endless Augusts Where are you now I’m scared I’ve lost you It’s been years and I’m afraid There are no parts of you left Remember smiling and understanding As understanding is with smiling Now I’m talking into darkness My angel where are you? Now I’m talking into darling My angel where are you? What with all these years And all this wine And all this emptiness And aftermath And aftermath Is it that, tell me this That our better parts are dancing Amongst stars, shining bright Like candles in the night Those green fields, acres deep Where are you now when I’m trying to sleep At night now , it’s so hard to see you At night now, it’s so hard to see you What with all these years And all this wine And all this emptiness And aftermath And aftermath

about

Slow Exhale, through the medium of eight songs by Liv Monaghan, brings us on a meditative, reflective journey.

Jazz in arrangement and approach, it incorporates elements of Folk, Soul and World music while retaining its Jazz features.

Slow Exhale, is a paint-collage of sorts, with notes of gentleness, humour and innocence, set beside a haunting sense of longing, calling to mind the fragmented nature of life in all its joys and melancholy.

about

Liv Monaghan Paris, France

independent Irish vocalist and songwriter based in Paris.

My music pulls threads from Jazz, Soul, Folk, and Romanticism to create an alternative, sometimes experimental, often poetic and always original sound.

Lover of the left-behind, of old things of letter-notes and half-light ghosts which get stitched, strung or typed back up together to make something new.
